AFGHANISTAN – Thoughts from Exile

Reading and discussion
The eyes of the world are on Afghanistan, and so are those of many exiled Afghans in Germany. Author Massum Faryar reports on how he processes his experiences and the history of his homeland, Afghanistan, in his art. By reading from his novel "Buskaschi oder Der Teppich meiner Mutter" (Buskaschi or My Mother's Carpet), he invites the audience to immerse themselves in the history of the country. Following the reading, he and the designer and women's rights activist Laila Noor will talk with journalist Nadine Kreuzahler about the current situation in Afghanistan.

Where: In the exhibition ZU/FLUCHT at Anhalter Bahnhof, behind the portico (Askanischer Platz, 10963 Berlin)

6. p.m.: Exile Then Exile Now
Panel discussion

A discussion between Doerte Bischoff (University Hamburg), Wolfgang Benz (historian), Adnan Softić (author and director), Sven Tetzlaff (Körber Foundation) and Cornelia Vossen (Exilmuseum Berlin).

From 8 p.m.: Live music by ILLAY
You can recognise ILLAY as a glowing mane of curls holding an electric bass, a cello with loop machine or a megaphone. The songs that she writes, on the other hand, are much darker but wrapped in a warm, rich texture of strings, guitars and a drop of electronica. ILLAY sings in Hebrew, English and French in the genre of oriental-indie-pop.
